Cocos Keeling Islands - Some Links - Info:

The Cocos (Keeling) Islands consists of two flat, low-lying coral atolls.  There is 26 km’s (16 miles) of magnificent coastline – white sandy beaches that are untouched by the modern world.  The islands are thickly covered with coconut palms and other lush vegetation.

North Keeling Island is an atoll consisting of just one C-shaped island, a nearly closed atoll ring with a small opening into the lagoon. North Keeling Island and the surrounding sea form the Pulu Keeling National Park. South Keeling Islands is an atoll consisting of twenty-four individual islets forming an incomplete atoll ring.

The climate on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands is pleasant with moderate rainfall.  The heat is moderated by the southeast trade winds. Only two islands on Cocos are populated - Home Island and West Island. Majority of the population are Cocos Malay.  The Cocos Malays maintain weekend shacks, referred to as pondoks, on most of the larger islands.
